The Juno Awards are a legendary night in Canadian music. But over the years, they’ve also become a goldmine for viral, chaotic, and genuinely unforgettable pop culture moments.
Whether it’s surprise appearances from major icons, jaw-dropping performances, or celebs going off-script, the Junos have delivered a lot more than just awards. In spirit of the 55th annual Juno Awards being right around the corner, let’s take a look at some of the most iconic moments in Junos history:
1.
Alanis Morissette delivers a wild parody moment at the 2004 Juno Awards. Morissette poked fun at the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show controversy in the wildest way possible by wearing a nude bodysuit with fake pubic hair and nipples.
2.
Shania Twain’s iconic bedazzled hockey look at the 2003 Junos. Only Shania could turn a hockey jersey into a campy pop star fashion statement.
3.
Avril Lavigne confronts a protestor onstage at the 2023 Juno Awards. Avril initially tries to ignore the interruption, before turning around and telling the person to “get the fuck off.” That’s icon behaviour right there.
4.
Justin Bieber and Drake bring peak “Bieber Fever” chaos to the 2010 Junos. Their 2010 performance of “Baby” was pure early 2010s energy, hair swoop and all. To this day, this was Justin’s only Junos appearance.
5.
Speaking of Drake, the legendary rapper hosted the following Junos in 2011. Despite being up for 6 awards, he still went home empty-handed (he was robbed, IMO). He did, however, deliver one of the most memorable speeches in Junos history by rapping, stirring up tons of laughs, and even serenading Shania Twain.
6.
Tina Turner and Bryan Adams deliver an iconic duet of their smash hit, “It’s Only Love”. Their 1985 performance is still one of the most legendary collabs to ever hit the Junos stage.
7.
The Beaches win Group of the Year for the second time at the 2025 Junos, making them the first all-women band to accomplish this milestone!
8.
Pierre Trudeau makes a surprise appearance at the 1981 Junos to induct Joni Mitchell into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. And this year, Mitchell is set to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
9.
Aysanabee became the first Indigenous artist to win both Songwriter and Alternative Album of the Year at the 2024 Junos. His speech had everyone emotional as he shared: “I grew up in a trailer in Northern Ontario without electricity or running water, and now I’m here.”
10.
Pamela Anderson serves as host for the 2006 Junos and made some interesting statements throughout the night. One of which being: “I don’t mind a little blood on the ice when it’s a hockey rink, but I hate seeing blood on the ice when it’s from baby seals.”
11.
The Barenaked Ladies reunite at the 2018 Juno Awards to celebrate their induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Steven Page left the band in 2009, but joined the group to perform a nostalgic medley of hits like “One Week” and “If I Had $1,000,000.
12.
And last but certainly not least, Bob Dylan makes a rare appearance at the 1986 Juno Awards to induct his friend, Gordon Lightfoot, into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
With decades of unforgettable performances, wins, and chaotic moments, the Juno Awards have more than earned their place in pop culture history.
The awards will return on Sunday, March 29th at 8 p.m. ET.
