A pair of break-in suspects have been charged following thefts at several downtown Windsor businesses.

The crime spree began Jan. 20, just after 12:30 a.m., when police say a man and a woman, both wearing face masks, attempted to break into a business in the 90 block of Park Street. After failing to manipulate the door’s locking mechanism using vice grips, the suspects left the area.

Police said they returned twice that morning – just before 3:30 a.m. and again around 6 a.m. — allegedly gaining access to the business and leaving within minutes with more than $4,000 in merchandise.

Four days later at approximately 6 a.m., the same male suspect is alleged to have used a pry bar and forced entry into a business in the 1300 block of Ouellette Avenue, stealing a cash box containing approximately $150 before fleeing the scene.

Police said the same male suspect allegedly broke into a business in the 300 block of Riverside Drive West the next day, just before 8 a.m.

The suspect, who wore a face mask during all three break-ins, stole a cash box containing approximately $700 in cash.

Officers with the Windsor Police Service target base unit were able to identify both suspects.

Officers arrested the 54-year-old man Jan. 28 in the 300 block of Church Street and charged him with four counts of break and enter, three counts of wearing a disguise to commit an offence and two counts of possession of a break-in instrument.

A 39-year-old woman was arrested the following morning in the same area and charged with two counts of break and enter and one charge of wearing a disguise to commit an offence.
