As the Winter Olympic Games ramp up in Milan, Italy, next weekend, folks closer to home can try their hand at the Olympic sport of curling.

Sun Parlour Curling Club is celebrating Curling Day in Canada Saturday by offering a free opportunity to step onto the ice, throw a stone and sweep just like our Canadian athletes.

“Curling is one of the few Olympic sports you can watch on television and then come try yourself the very same day,” said general manager Melissa Paine.

“We’re thrilled to open our doors to the community and share the fun, technique, and camaraderie of the game.”

Two “try curling” sessions will be offered – at 1 and 4 p.m. — open to anyone aged eight and up.

No equipment or experience is required. Paine said clean sneakers, warm layers and a sense of curiosity are all that’s needed to participate in the free sessions.

Due to limited space, advance registration is required. Fill out a form at sunparlourcurling.com.

Spectators are also welcome to drop in and watch live curling action at the club and learn more about how to get involved.
