The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday extended birthday wishes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while using the occasion to highlight concerns over the state of the nation under his administration.
In a message posted on the X handle of its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the coalition party said the President’s birthday presents an opportunity for reflection on key national issues, particularly the economy, security, and democratic governance.
The ADC noted that rising fuel prices have significantly impacted Nigerians, claiming that costs have increased sharply in recent years, making transportation and daily living more difficult for many citizens.
The party also referenced Nigeria’s position on the Global Terrorism Index, expressing concern over persistent insecurity, loss of lives, and displacement of communities across parts of the country.
According to the statement, “under your leadership, insecurity has not just persisted, it has expanded,” adding that the situation has continued to affect families and communities nationwide.
The ADC further criticised what it described as the government’s handling of security challenges, arguing that official rhetoric in some instances has failed to reflect the gravity of the crisis.
On the economy, the party said Nigerians are facing increasing hardship due to rising cost of living, noting that the “Renewed Hope” agenda of the administration has yet to translate into relief for many households.
The statement also raised concerns about the political environment, warning against what it termed a narrowing democratic space and the potential drift toward a one-party system.
Despite the criticisms, the ADC framed its message as a birthday reflection, urging the President to use the moment to reassess governance priorities.
“As you celebrate your final year in office, Nigerians can only offer a prayer that this next year brings a renewed sense of responsibility in addressing the challenges facing the country,” the statement read.
The party concluded by wishing the President good health while calling for improved decision-making and greater attention to the welfare and security of Nigerians.
