Back in 2015, prominent investor and former Packer family adviser Ashok Jacob was toying with the idea of placing a bigger bet on the rise of Asia. China’s Tencent and Alibaba were on the rise and Jacob’s Ellerston Capital had made some promising investments in the region, so why not establish a standalone fund?
So, when Mary Manning, one of Ellerston’s analysts, pitched Jacob her own Asia-focus fund, he quickly agreed, promoting her to portfolio manager of the newly established $250 million Ellerston Asian Investments Fund.
