Yikes, A Member Of The Men’s Hockey Team Has Responded To Trump Joking About The Women’s Team
“People are so negative out there and they’re just trying to find a reason to put people down and make something out of almost nothing.”
A member of the US men’s hockey team spoke about the recent controversy involving President Donald J. Trump.
This past week, both the US men’s and women’s hockey teams won gold medals at the Olympics. The men’s team got a call from Trump via Kash Patel in their locker room post-game, where Trump invited them to the State of the Union. “I must tell you, we’re going to have to bring the women’s team. You do know that,” he said as the players laughed. “I do believe I’d probably would be impeached [if I don’t invite them], okay?”
Yesterday, the women’s team turned down their invitation to the State of the Union. “Due to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate,” the statement read in part. “They were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgment.”
Now, men’s player Jack Hughes, who scored the winning goal at the Olympics, is speaking out. Speaking to the Daily Mail at a party in Miami, Jack said of being invited to the White House and asked to meet Trump, “Yeah, we’re excited. Everything is so political. We’re athletes.”
“We’re so proud to represent the US and we get the chance to go to White House and meet the President, we’re proud to be Americans and that’s so patriotic. No matter what your views are, we’re super excited to go to the White House tomorrow and be a part of that,” he continued.
When asked about the women not attending, Jack said, “They’ve got busy schedules, too. Everyone is giving us backlash for all the social media stuff today. It’s so negative. People are so negative out there and they’re just trying to find a reason to put people down and make something out of almost nothing.”
He further said that the men’s team relationship with the women’s team was “tight,” adding, “After we won the gold medal, we were in the cafeteria at 3.30 a.m. in the morning with them and we go from there, pack our bags and we’re on the bus…I think everyone in that locker room knows how much we support them, how proud we are of them and we know the same way we feel about them, they feel about us.”
