Some users of the Pixel Phone app are encountering an issue where the “Take a Message” feature is sending their audio to the caller.
According to 9to5Google, the glitch occurs once Take a Message kicks in following a declined/missed call. Once the feature kicks in, reports say that the caller then receives background audio of the person they were trying to reach, and they can hear what’s happening around the device as they are leaving a message.
The first report of the issue dates back to September 2025 from a Redditor with a Pixel 5. However, more reports of the same issue on other Pixel devices came within the following month. One report of the problem noted that the microphone privacy indicator (the little green dot) popped up once Take a Message was activated. After it happened naturally, the user noted they were able to replicate the problem twice.
According to the initial thread, a way to fix the problem is to simply turn off the Take a Message feature in settings.
Given the few reports, this doesn’t look to be a widespread bug; however, it is a problem that needs to be addressed, as it is a privacy breach. Interestingly, it appears to be happening to older Pixel devices, with only one report coming in from a newer (Pixel 10) device.
According to 9to5Google, the tech giant is looking into the reports.
