The Philippine Coast Guard is searching for more than a dozen divers and crew members of a boat that reportedly sank off the archipelago’s largest southern island, Mindanao.
After receiving a smartphone message, the Coast Guard dispatched the vessel Malamawi to look for the divers, which officials think are clinging to their outrigger dive boat’s overturned hull somewhere in the Davao Gulf.
A Coast Guard official told a local news agency:
“We are still searching the general area where we received the mobile-phone message from the divers.”
Some news reports are saying the boat sailed without the proper Coast Guard clearance.
